A first grader is given suspension for pretending to shoot an imaginary bow and arrow at recess.
The boy’s father Matthew Miele told WCPO that his son was given a three day punishment at his Catholic school because they have a zero tolerance policy towards threatening gestures.
“I have no tolerance for any real, pretend or imitated violence,” said a letter from the principal of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Miele says his son was pretending to be a power ranger at recess when a teacher noticed the act and alerted the principal.
“I don’t see anything wrong with the way he was playing,” said Miele, “The punishment is so severe in this it’s hard as a parent to try to make this a teachable moment for our kid so we can move forward in a healthy manner.”
“I can’t stop him from pretending to be a super hero,” The boy’s mother told WLWT. “I can’t stop him from playing ninja turtles. I can’t stop him from doing these things and I don’t think it would be healthy to do so.”
Miele said his son didn’t have any malicious intent, and he wants the school to drop the issue.
Miele and his wife plan to keep their son at the school, but they may sent him somewhere else for the next year.
